There was a research done by a company named Mintel who found out that 57 percent of the consumers who read the reviews whom they have surveyed feel suspicious of the companies or even the products who seem to have positive reviews on the net. They also found out that 49 percent of the readers felt that the reviewers were being paid incentives by the companies.

Recently the researchers of the Cornwell University formulated a software to detect the fake comments from the true ones. The name of the software is Review Skeptic which is reported to be correct about 90 percent of the times. But the researchers feel that the human beings are poor at determining the truth.

The researchers found out that in the case of concrete things like real estate flats, hotels and other such things the details are missing in the floor area, the description of the apartment or the object as that requires the physical visit to the place. Someone who has not visited the place might have a tough time in describing the place in detail.

Check for jargons:

The product reviews that look like product manuals full of jargons and technical words may mean that these are written by the insiders. The logic is that the users or the customers are most likely not to know the technical jargons and so the chances are that these product or service reviews are fake.

Check the profile of the reviewer:

If you see that a particular writer only writes reviews about a specific company or a product which the researchers say is a huge warning that they are fake. As a next step, you can check the profiles of the reviewer also by putting the name in Google or any search engine or from any other social media and can find out whether this is really a person or a fictitious entity.

The Reviews should be concrete:

The review researchers say that the people providing real reviews and using the product would be more concrete in their descriptions and would not be very vague. An example would be that a review which says “The radio was terrible. Never use it. I hate it.” is fake as compared to someone who writes “The radio lasted for seven days and after which the speaker went off.”
